yogaś-citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ (Yoga Sūtra I.2)

yogaḥ = (literal meaning = harnessing, yoking)

citta = mentality (thinking, thought), intellect, ego, senses

vṛtti = rolling down, moral conduct, kind or respectful behavior or treatment, mode of being, character, 

nirodhaḥ = checking, controlling, restraining
